POLITICAL CARTOONS

Clifford Baldowski was one of Georgia's most cogent and admired political observers. The son of a newspaperman, Clifford "Baldy" Baldowski fulfilled this destiny by becoming an editorial cartoonist first for the Augusta Chronicle, then at the Miami Herald, and finally, for the rest of his career, at the Atlanta Constitution (Severn 1).

- This cartoon by Clifford H. Baldowski portrays a congressman running towards John Q. Public. He is trying to tell him that he finally just found out what is going on in the war in Vietnam, simply because he read it in the newspaper.
- This is a very bold cartoon, yet it does effectively show how the majority of the general public felt about the government during the time of the war. Many Americans felt that the government was in the dark about just how brutal the war was. Some even felt that they had no idea what was going on at all overseas.

- This cartoon shows Richard Nixon and two other men in a Jeep that is stuck in the mud. Over on the side there is a sign that reads "LBJ was here." Baldowski is trying to show his audience that Richard Nixon got stuck in the Vietnam situation, just as Johnson did, and he had no idea how to sucessfully get out.
- The blank map signifies the fact that Richard Nixon had no idea what he was doing when it came to bringing peace to Vietnam.

- This cartoon depicts a long, empty table where negotiations are supposed to be taking place .
- This not only shows that peace negotiations in Vietnam were not only put aside, but no one cared enough to make them a priority. This angered the public immensely because there were thousands of soldiers overseas giving their lives for a not-so-worthy cause.
